Braised Short Ribs & Bonus Recipe

the-eagle-has-no-fear-of-adversity.-we-need-to-be-like-the-eagle-and-have-a-fearless-spirit-of-a-conqueror

Food. Who doesn’t like food? Whether you’re a vegetarian, Vegan or Meat & Potatoes kind of person(like me) we all eat some sort of food. I follow several people as do all of you but in the email today there was a recipe from this blog I just started following. It’s for Braised  Short Ribs. Sounds yummy doesn’t it. The blog these recipes came from is Yankee-Belle Cafe. The blog link from the original post is: Braised Short Ribs Recipe . Also, the blog this recipe came from has a total of 5 authors contributing recipes. Now onto the good stuff, the recipes.

BRAISED SHORT RIBS RECIPE

What You’ll Need:

  • 3-4 lbs. short ribs, you can use boneless or bone-in
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • Bacon, cut into small pieces (about 4 strips if you’re using thick-sliced or 6 regular slices)
  • 2-3 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 32 oz beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp dried rosemary

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees.

Season your ribs with salt and pepper.

1

Then lightly dredge in flour.

2

Set aside.

In a large Dutch oven, over medium heat, cook the bacon until all of the fat is rendered and the meat is crispy, but not burned.3Remove bacon to paper towel.

Crank up the heat to high and add your oil to the bacon fat. Brown the ribs in batches.

45

Remove from pan and set aside.

Lower the heat and add carrots, onion and garlic.

6

Stir that around for a minute or so, then add a little bit of the beef broth, scraping the bottom of the pan to incorporate all those little bits of meat.

Add the remainder of the broth, 1 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste and bring to a boil.

7

Now add your browned ribs and top with thyme and rosemary.

8

And don’t forget about that cooked bacon.

9

Cover and place pot in oven for two-and-half to three hours.

Remove from oven and allow to rest with the lid on for at least 20 minutes.

10

Oh, the aromas of this feast will have you counting the seconds.

You can whip up a batch of creamy cheese grits to serve with these. You can find the recipe Here . But if you prefer, mashed potatoes are an option, too.

MY SPARK for today is Psalm 23 from the Bible. Sadly we have lost to many pets and furfriends. This is to honor their memory and also to help those who are grieving for whatever reason. If your somebody who’s grieving I’m really sorry for your loss. Psalm 23 is for those not only grieving but for those who feel lost and want to be found.

Helping The Hungry, The Homeless And Pets

Famine-victims-and-world-population-since-1860HungerCycle-orgmercycorps

While we celebrate Christmas and New Year this holiday season by stuffing ourselves with food and maybe even wasting some of that food you can’t eat, before taking too much food think of all the people in the world that goes hungry because they don’t have food to eat and they might be even homeless.

When I looked at the charts I was in absolute awe. So many people in poverty and going hungry. Below are some things we all can do to help.

women_poverty3

Maybe if everyone would adopt just 1 person and send some food, a nice warm blanket to somebody who needs it you can help one person at a time. If you can get someone into a shelter for a while even better. I know there are organizations who send care packages, there are some where you adopt a platoon and of course there is Marine Toys For Tots. So once the Christmas gifts are unwrapped and the celebrating is done take some time out of your day to help the people who really need it.

poverty-2018

I’m not say quit baking but if you do bake during the Christmas and New Years Season when you bake something for your double the batch and make a batch for someone who really needs help. If you can’t cook well that’s OK because you can help out by sending care packages, helping serve food to the hungry, help out at a food pantry and etc… There are so many ways you can help.

My post has been all about people so far but we must not forget about the animals who need a forever home, need food and water, need saving from being killed.  So if you are getting a gift for yourself this Christmas and New Years Season there is so much you need to know and do before getting that pet. What should you know? A few things you should consider before getting a pet is:

  • If you have kids do research on what breed is best for kids.
  • Consider unexpected vet bills.
  • Make sure you get pet insurance(it’s worth it).
  • Make sure you get your pet microchipped.
  • Make sure you start looking for a pet to rescue or adopt at a reputable shelter.
  • If you get a kitten, make sure they’re not flea dipped to early(always let a vet flea dip your kitten instead of a person at the shelter).

There are so many more points to research and do when you decide to get that pet it will just boggle your mind.

Caturday Art: Halloween Time

HALLOWEEN TIME

HALLOWEEN TIME  is a time of fun. Daisy Mae and I thought since we were not going to around for Caturday Art around HALLOWEEN TIME, we would share with you our Halloween artistry.  We had lots of fun making these for you(actually I made them but Daisy Mae helped in her own way). Below is our Halloween artistry.

The above picture was made on GIF MAKER – CREATE  . That’s where I got all the HALLOWEEN stickers to put on the picture.

The above HALLOWEEN picture was finished on Bloggif – Home . However, sadly when the gif was finished and created, it took the best part out — The blinking eyes, Moving flying cat on broom, Blinking pumpkin, Blinking eyes on cat in pumpkin and Blinking and moving words.

THIS PICTURE IS TAKEN AT OUR CAMP IN 2017.

The above picture is the picture I used to start out with before I started creating. I didn’t edit this picture.

SPARKS

Sometimes Sparks comes easy for me and sometimes not. Ever had that happened. On the Morning of October 6, 2018, I was reading my devotions with the Lord and came across something interesting I felt I should share with you. First let me tell you what it was about. My devotion from Our Daily Bread was called God Was at Columbine. It was about the killings at Columbine School. I know you’re probably wondering how is killing positive and encouraging. Below is what I found out and it’s positive and encouraging.

This item appeared in a newspaper after the 1999 fatal shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado:

Dear God: Why didn’t you save the children of the Littleton school?

Sincerely, a student

Dear Student : I am not allowed in schools. Sincerely, God

Interesting thought isn’t it? Even though God may not be allowed in schools He’s always there no matter what and thankfully He is.

POSITIVE THOUGHT #1

When tragedy, heartache, and sorrow abound,

When evil appears to have conquered the right,

We center our heart on our Father’s great love,

For He will bring hope in the darkest of night. —DJD

POSITIVE THOUGHT #2

God may be doing His greatest work

when evil seems to triumph.

SPARKS: THE BRIGHT SIDE OF GRIEVING

Death is a part of life. We all have experienced death whether it is a loved one or furfriend(pet). We cry and shouldn’t be ashamed. Crying is a positive way to deal with death. Remembering and cherishing those memories made is another way to stay positive through death. Everyone deals with death differently so never put someone down with how they are dealing with death but encourage them and give them good, positive vibes.

My last pet I lost was my cat Tigger who I lost on 9-11-2015.

What is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day?

In short, Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day is a day set aside to remember all your pets that’s passed over the Rainbow Bridge. To find out more including when this day was founded, Who founded this special day and Why this day was founded and more please go to the following link provided and it is: Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day August 28 .

My pets from when I was child to when I was an adult were many. I’ve had Chameleons, Dogs, Cats and I’m sure there were more I can’t remember. I remember all of my pets that have went over the Rainbow Bridge.

Remember, today isn’t a sad day but a happy day because our pets aren’t suffering anymore.

Encouragement & Friendship Flowers

galax flowers.
WHITE GALAX FLOWER.

INTRODUCTION:

While I was thinking about what to do for Sparks I had a thought and that thought was why don’t you do something with the meaning of encouragement. Of course I tried and tried to come up with something else but all I could think of was wanting Spring to get here and the sunshine and the pretty flowers to stay for a while.  Then I said to myself, flowers that’s it I’ll do it on flowers. 3. To Find A Theme That Is More Updated Than The One I Have By January 2, 2019.

ENCOURAGEMENT

https://mcguffysreader.com/  has a project called Sparks post each week. I decided to join this project with McGuffy’s Reader to encourage others each week.  My encouragement post is called ENCOURAGEMENT.  On March 4, 2018, I was reading my morning devotions with the Lord and guess what?  The devotional reading was called Dying for Encouragement. In a nutshell, it was about a corporate accountant who committed suicide and no-one knew why. He didn’t embezzle money and that made his co-workers wonder why until a note was found and that note simply said this: In thirty years I have never had one word of encouragement. I’m fed up. My ENCOURAGEMENT quotes and reading  are: It may seem insignificant to say a word or two; but when we give encouragement, what wonders it can do!  —K. DeHaan—      My second ENCOURAGEMENT quote is: A word of encouragement can make the difference between giving up or going on. —Author Unknown—    The reading for encouragement is Deuteronomy 3:23 – 29.   So when you think your encouragement isn’t doing any good, think again. It is. When you encourage some someone make sure it is genuine encouragement(not flattery) and it will help others.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

We all need encouragement daily and I found these encouraging words to be helpful and hope they are helpful and are an inspiration to you. Below is my Spark.words_of_encouragement
